CURRENT RESEARCH
Ventnor Radar Station.

© webmaster
With the Wight Air Wrecks book now complete and in the shops, my next prospective
project is to research and write a definitive history of the Radar station
at Ventnor from its construction as a wartime " Chain-Home" station
through its "Cold War " phase and final use as air traffic control
radar. Any information is eagerly sought on any part of the site's history;
especially if you or a relative/ friend were employed there or helped build
or maintain the site. Photos, anecdotes, plans or anything would be welcomed.

Rocket Mail
Around 1934, Austrian ( possibly German) scientist Gerhard
Zucker experimented with 'ROCKET MAIL" between Lymington
(in the New Forest- Hampshire) and the Isle of Wight. Zucker had tried this
form of 'Air-Mail' at other locations and needless to say this service was
no more sucsessful than the previous attempts. The 'service' being banned
on grounds of public safety!
Any info on Herr Zucker's Isle of Wight mail service is also keenly sought.
